I'm a native New Yorker who's been drawing since childhood. Although I've taken classes at
The Pastel Society of America and The Art Students League I consider myself largely self-educated. I use a variety
of mediums and styles to express my ideas, ideals and visions. With collectors from the Bronx to Australia, my intention is
to create vibrant, meaningful work that will continue to resonate with individuals. I
created Polestar Images as an online portfolio/ gallery for my art and am happy to be able to provide other interesting home
furnishing products as well in The Store. Polestar Images also has The Village link, a community page featuring recommended
musicians, videos, quotes, glitter graphics and now an events log to keep you informed of what's happening and when!
Why Polestar as a name? During
slavery, to reduce the number of escaping slaves, owners sought to keep them ignorant of geography, of even learning how to
tell directions. However the slaves knew freedom was north and they knew which way was north because of Polaris, The
North Star or the Pole
star. It lies directly north in the sky.
Slaves fled using the simple direction "walk towards the north star".
Polaris became a symbol of freedom to slaves as well as a guide
star. ~ Lydia Randall
